    Zikzaklı Peshtemal

Zikzaklı is our 100% cotton chevron design Turkish towel, and with its striking zigzag pattern, we’ve named it ‘Zikzaklı’ which means ‘zigzag’ in Turkish. This traditional flat-woven chevron peshtemal has been an indispensable part of the traditional and historic Turkish bathing experience for centuries. Beautifully soft and in a range of soft pastel colours Zikzaklı is one of our most popular peshtemal designs for bath towels and baby blankets.

Woven by artisans on semi-automatic looms, each tassel is carefully twisted and knotted by hand. Peshtemals or hammam towels as they are known in Turkey, are great for the home or holidays. Zikzaklı is super absorbent, quick drying, lightweight and easy to pack, they are perfect for travelling, the beach or the gym. The beautifully soft cotton and range of colours also makes it a perfect wrap or scarf for those cold winter days. It’s even big enough to use as a throw for your sofa or bed.

So, who is our Zikzaklı peshtemal weaving partner?

Our Zikzaklı peshtemals are sourced by our weaving partner and good friend Bekir. They are woven by his team of artisan weavers in Buldan in the Aegean region of Turkey. Buldan is legendary in Turkey for its cotton growing and weaving industry. It is believed that the weaving culture in this area is 7000 years old. Its woven textiles are long lasting due to the strongly spun quality cotton threads. On our first peshtemal shopping trip to Buldan we were shown how the cotton threads were spun and dyed ready for weaving the famous Turkish peshtemal.

Zikzaklı peshtemal are woven in over 30 colours, so when we visit Bekir and begin the task of trying to choose colours for Pazaar, we are like children in a sweet shop, wanting them all!

    Important information

    1. Because our peshtemals are hand woven you may occasionally find tiny thread pulls and knots in the fabric. This is because during the weaving process threads sometimes catch in the loom and the weavers simply snip the loop and then either push the loose threads back into the weave or knot them up.

    2. The cotton thread used for our peshtemals is dyed in small batches.  For this reason the shade of colour in your peshtemal may vary slightly from the product photograph.

At Pazaar we think this all adds to the character and uniqueness of each of our peshtemals….no one peshtemal is the same as the other. We endeavour to check all our products before we send them out to customers, but very occasionally something small will slip by us. If this happens and you want to return or exchange your peshtemal this is absolutely fine. Please read through the Pazaar Returns Guidance here and we will be more than happy to exchange your peshtemal.
