Hamsi Blanket and Throw

Our beautiful Hamsi blanket is a kaleidoscope of contrasting colours, made in 100% cotton and woven using at least twenty different coloured threads. These ethically made blankets or pike (pee-kay) as they are called in Turkey, are handwoven in Buldan on traditional semi-automatic looms and each tassel carefully hand-tied.

Hamsi is the thickest cotton blanket in the Pazaar range, it drapes and folds beautifully and the soft cotton makes it perfect for snuggling up in on cold winter nights. Traditional Turkish textile design at its best, the Hamsi creates a contemporary home accessory, perfect as a throw or blanket for beds and sofas or a unique beach/picnic rug.

So how did we discover the Hamsi?

While we were living in Turkey, we lived in a rented villa and had to provide some of the furniture ourselves. We scoured the vast selection of second hand shops in Fethiye, where we lived. Eventually two beautiful, but slightly tired looking sofas were discovered tucked away at the back of a shop. A temporary way to brighten the sofas up and hide the fading and worn fabric was needed, and so the hunt for the perfect sofa throw began. A visit to Paspatur, a central tourist area for Turkish crafts and textiles in Fethiye, and the multi-coloured Hamsi immediately caught our eye. We fell in love with the Hamsi and immediately invested in two, extra-large throws, one for each sofa. They drape and fold beautifully, never seem to crease and are large enough to cover the whole sofa. Last summer, when our time to return to the UK arrived, our Hamsi's made the journey back with us and are now sprawled across the double beds in our new home.

Important information 

Because our Turkish blankets and throws are hand woven you may occasionally find tiny thread pulls and knots in the fabric. This is because during the weaving process threads sometimes catch in the loom and the weavers simply snip the loop and then either push the loose threads back into the weave or knot them up. At Pazaar we think this all adds to the character and uniqueness of each of our blankets and throws….no one blanket is the same as the other. We endeavour to check all our products before we send them out to customers, but very occasionally a little knot or pulled thread will slip by us. If this happens and you want to return or exchange your throw this is absolutely fine. Please read through the Pazaar Returns Guidance here and we will be more than happy to exchange your blanket and throw.
