    The Three-Legged Bowl

What more can I say?...it was love at first sight when we saw these quirky three-legged terracotta bowls.

Of course, it is just a bowl, but you have to admit it is a pretty special bowl! Always  a talking point, the Three-Legged Bowl draws lots of attention sitting in the centre of the table at dinner parties. We think it's perfect for dips, nibbles, fruit & sweet treats, but you know what?..there really are no rules!

A functional bowl it may well be, but we think it's simply a beautiful object in its own right. Our Three-Legged Bowl sits perfectly in your home; on a mantel piece in the lounge, a shelf in the kitchen or a window sill in your bedroom, it's always a source of interest and conversation!

Glazed in four beautiful colours; yellow, teal, turquoise & orange; it looks beautiful all on its own...or you can create your own set of mix and match  coloured bowls. The different coloured bowls look pretty special when they are all sitting around together on a table.

So, what makes our Three Legged Bowls so special?
When we began thinking of the products we would like to introduce to Pazaar, Turkish terracotta pottery was always on the list. But tracking down the makers and then getting it back to UK...well that's another story! We love the history behind the making of our teraccotta bowls and the fact that they've made the journey all the way from Capadoccia to us here in Porthmadog, North Wales.

The red clay used to make our bowls comes from Avanos, a Hitite city in the World Heritage region of Capadoccia, Turkey.  Avanos is an ancient town where people still live in rock houses carved into the famous basalt formations.

The Kızılırmak River (Red River) is the longest river in Turkey. Starting at Mount Arafat, it flows through the town of Avanos, then makes a U-turn and goes back to the Black Sea. On the banks of this river is the red-hued clay which is used in making this pottery. Pottery has been produced in this region as far back as around 2000 BC, the time of the Hittites.

The three-legged design is inspired by ancient Iranian Amlash Culture, dating back to 9th-8th centuries BC. Amlash terracotta pottery is known for it’s strong visual character and believed to have been styled and inspired by bronze wares of the same period. We love the way the Capadoccia artisan potters have taken an ancient design and put a modern twist to it.
