Buldan Peshtemal

This is our Buldan Peshtemal featuring what we think is the most gorgeous palette of tangerine orange, mustard, cornflower blue and fern green colours. Delicately woven in waffle weave, they have a lovely lightweight,  textured feel. 

Made from 100% Turkish Cotton, hand dyed and woven by artisan weavers on semi-automatic looms, each tassel is carefully twisted and knotted by hand. Buldan is super absorbent, quick drying and easy to pack; perfect for travelling, the beach or the gym. Peshtemals or hammam towels as they are known in Turkey, are great for the home or holidays. The beautifully soft cotton and range of colours makes it a perfect wrap around scarf, in a colour range we think works well for both our male and female customers.  

How did we discover our Buldan Peshtemals ?

This spring we visited Buldan, the home of Turkish textiles and weaving. We spent four days meeting with the weavers that we already work with...and some new ones. During our time there we met with one of our lovely new makers, Saadet. We fell in love with all her textiles and the brightly coloured waffle weave peshtemals immediately caught our eye. We had a lovely afternoon with Saadet and her daughter Ecem, drinking endless cups of Turkish çay (tea) and eating the most delicious homemade baklava I've ever had.  I can muddle by in Turkish, and can generally just about make myself understood. Luckily Ecem's English was amazing and she patiently translated for us all afternoon.....so we really had chance to get to know all about Saadet, her family and listen to her weaving stories. Whenever we visit Buldan we are humbled by the hospitality and generosity we receive from the weavers and their families. So this lovely waffle peshtemal had to be named Buldan .....in honour of this lovely weaving town and their people.
